WHAT:  Join Thomas Jefferson Hospital and the Canadian Consulate General of New York on November 7, 2014 for discussions of best practices in digital health: How to navigate the new digital healthcare landscape to improve patient care and reduce costs.

      • Speakers include the CEO and the chief medial information officer of Jefferson Hospital and prominent Canadian healthcare system professionals
      • A look at how eHealth solutions in Canada can be applied to the US to reduce costs and improve care
      • Presentations of healthcare innovations by ten Canadian CEOs in the Canadian Technology Accelerator (CTA Health IT)

 

WHO:  Since 2009, this semi-annual event hosted by the Canadian Consulate General  New York in Philadelphia has attracted hundreds of CMIOs, Innovation Officers and Quality Officers from major academic and community hospitals, health insurance companies, universities, as well as investors, health IT systems integrators, consultants and thought-leaders. Attendees are from the greater Philadelphia area including Danville and Hershey PA, New Brunswick NJ and Baltimore MD.

US KEYNOTE: John C. Kairys, MD, FACS, Chief Medical Information Officer, Thomas Jefferson University

For more than two decades, Dr. Kairys has been Chief Medical Information Officer of Thomas Jefferson University; Associate Dean for Graduate Medical Education, and Affiliations/Assistant Professor of Surgery at Thomas Jefferson Medical College.


CANADIAN KEYNOTE: Glen Geiger, MD, BASc, MASc, MBA, FRCP (C) Chief Medical Information Officer, Ottawa Hospital 

 Dr. Geiger leads Ottawa Hospital’s efforts to implement Computerized Physician Order Entry, Voice Recognition and Electronic Documentation. Recently awarded an MBA from the Telfer School of Business and Management, Dr. Geiger is also a practicing general internal medicine specialist.

Dr. Harm Scherpbier, MD Chief Medical Information Officer, Main Line Health Responsible for the implementation of healthcare information systems and electronic patient records for doctors, nurses and other clinicians throughout the Main Line Health system. Dr. Scherpbier is also adjunct faculty for Health Informatics at Thomas Jefferson University’s School of Population Health.

Shafique Shamji, Executive Vice President and Chief Information Officer, Ottawa Hospital With more than 25 years of experience in telecommunications, IS/IT and software development, Shafique Shamji has held multiple C-Suite positions in Canada and the US including COO of Macadamian Technologies, President of Privasoft Corporation, and COO of TeleHub Network Services.

The Nov 2014 event is the seventh Canadian Health Technology Innovation Summit hosted in the Philadelphia area since 2009.
